John F. Kennedy brought a sense of youth and energy to presidency that resounded with young people all across the world even in little old New Zealand. A young New Zealand girl, Marlys Messingham, quotes "I remember where I was when it happened, and watching TV those days, and feel like something like that couldn't happen in America," she said. "Just a terrible thing that you wish it wasn't true. Just a dream or something. It was just a fog we all went through for three or four days." This shows us the way some New Zealanders reacted emotionally to the assassination. There were tears of grief and anger and thoughts of love and remembrance. People just like Marlys were shocked at the horror of what they were seeing and as shes said, she wished it was just a dream. Some people couldn't fathom how something like this could happen in such a great big country like America and many sat in front of their TV's over those three or four days and just watched in silence as the story unraveled.
A New Zealander by the name of H Warner King was there on the day of the assassination and even photographed the president and his wife just moments before the bullet hit. King was an amateur photographer and moved to Dallas, Texas after the end of World War II. He was a huge fan of Kennedy and relished in the knowledge he would be able to capture him on camera during his visit to Dallas. Many magazines and publications used his photos for their front pages and it is considered to be the Zapruder of photos. Speculation says that he captured the killing on photos but these have not been found.
